1) Carter's Inc, a leading maker of children's apparel in North America, plans to open 200 stores in China by 2022, with at least 40 new outlets this year, said its executive on Thursday.It has 12 stores and an online shop on Tmall. It is going to focus on big cities, including Shanghai, Hangzhou and Chengdu. Carter's expects to open 10 to 15 stores in Beijing this year. Michael Casey, Carter's chairman and CEO, said China's baby market size is about $12 billion and will be doubled to $25 billion by the year of 2025 and Chinese consumers have grown more sophisticated and are making more informed purchases in the digital age.

2) US lingerie giant Victoria's Secret has finally made a full landing in China. Right under the corporate logo on its website, "Shanghai" sits beside "New York, London", indicating the global brand's three biggest centers on the planet now. Shanghai women can buy the signature VS pushup bras and frilly panties from the four-story flagship store. The brand has also forayed into Chengdu, Sichuan province, in Southwest China. With VS generating 70 percent of L Brand's total revenue, the company singled out "continued investment in China" as a key factor in its earnings forecast. At the Shanghai store, each piece of brassiere costs between 300 yuan ($45) and 600 yuan, at a premium to price tags in the United States or Canada. The higher-end segment of lingerie is enjoying rapid growth in China. If VS can win certain market share in that niche, it will be a notable remedy to its global revenue.

3) Adidas Greater China has announced that the company has selected the China Trade Management (CTM) solution by Amber Road to automate and centralise its China General Trade activities. The Adidas group plans to boost its retail sales network to 12,000 outlets in China by 2020, with much of the growth slated for smaller cities. A growing enthusiasm for sports across China has helped Adidas power-up sales in the region, making it one of the most profitable markets for the company. 4) The Government of India is likely to impose anti-dumping duty on import of elastomeric filament yarn from four countries—China, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam—as the Directorate General of Antidumping and Allied Duties (DGAD) has concluded in its investigations that the yarn has been exported to India from these countries below its associated normal value. The authority recommends imposition of definitive anti- dumping duty… so as to remove the injury to the domestic industry. The DGAD has recommended duty ranges between $0.15 per kg to $3.44 per kg. 5) Bangladesh has overtaken China to become the largest denim supplier to the European Union, on the other hand it has become the third largest denim supplier after China and Mexico to the US. Bangladesh exported €567.97 million worth of denim products to the 28-nation bloc -- enough to secure a 21.18 percent market share, the highest during the period January- June 2016. The headway has been possible because of the millions of dollars that the local denim fabrics makers invested to set up state-of-the-art facilities in their plants. A development that would give confidence to the country's garment sector as it looks to hit $50 billon in exports by 2021.
